The adhesive and the wall behind the 1950's plastic tile is sound. Can we put c tile right over it? Thank you

We are remodeling this bathroom. The walls are in fine shape. This will not be in a moisture area. The tub area we will be putting in the cement backerboard. This is only the other wall area. Also, the rubber ceiling tiles, can we effectively paint over that or do we have to tear down the entire ceiling. I'd rather not have to take down the walls and the ceiling. The adhesive and the wall behind the 1950's plastic tile is sound. Can we put c tile right over it? Thank you
As long as the existing subsurface is sound, you can put tile over it. The rubber ceiling tiles can be painted over, be sure to clean them and use a bonding primer first. Make sure of course to use a paint, or a paint additive to ensure that it will be mold and mildew resistant. The adhesive and the wall behind the 1950's plastic tile is sound.
